I attended my cousin’s wedding this past weekend and the maid of honor, Katie, provided a great toast and an analogy which truly fit both the bride (Erin) and the groom (Jeff).
The analogy revolved around Packaging and the “For Optimal Results” recommendations associated with a product. Essentially she said Erin should have a warning label that says, “For Optimal Results, use with Jeff” and Jeff should have a similar label.
I thought this was clever and started to think about what kind of labels I would have. Obviously, I would have a similar warning with my wife’s name in the appropriate place, but what drives my optimal results in other areas of life?
For Optimal Results….
- provide a challenging problem.
- constantly change the environment.
- do not stick in a cubicle.
- use the product for things other than its intended use.
- provide feedback.
- do not restrict the products creativity.
I could probably go on and on, but I would prefer to hear how you are optimized.

* for optimal results:
- apply liberally with teammates
- use with large whiteboards
- provide low-wattage light
- dispatch in a creative environment
- induce focus through loud trance, house, or techno music (glowsticks optional)
.. i could probably continue my list as well, but those are the big-hitters. if i have those things going for me, chances are you’ll get a good end product.
